Are there workloads bottlenecked only by single-threaded perf per watt, where having multiple cores awake in the same box would be antithetical to the point? Some kind of scale-out HFT liquidity strategy, perhaps?


Minecraft servers are single threaded. For hosting one of those you want a purpose hoster which will usually have Intel boxes.


I comparison-shop dedicated hosting services a lot, and I've often wondered why a "Minecraft server" is advertised as its own thing, separate from a regular machine. I had always assumed it was just an SEO thing. TIL.
