eBay suspended my account 25 minutes after registration (pixeldrain.com)

I registered an eBay account to purchase some hardware for my business. Before I even had the time to enter payment details I got a message saying my account had been suspended. Support will not reinstate my account under any circumstances, neither will they tell me what I did wrong.

I tried to delete my account afterwards, but apparently even that's not allowed. Suspended account are not allowed to be deleted until the suspension has been resolved. Isn't this against privacy laws? I should be able to delete my account whenever I want.

Here is the full e-mail transcript that I had with support. It's a bit lengthy so I won't post it completely in the OP: https://pixeldrain.com/u/vasZm17y

You registered with a name on their disallow list. Same thing happened to me with the same language when opening a business account with a listed partner who had previously been banned from eBay.

Where is there more information on their disallow list?

Nowhere. I got the confirmation from the person on the disallow list, ebay won’t tell you anything.

Every reply a different person, who may have or may not have the authority to use the bathroom.

You could demand them to delete the account by withdrawing your consent for data retention. They need to have a legal justification to keep it in that case. Would be interesting how they react.

By GDPR you can also demand them answering with whom the data is shared and how long it will be kept. Their "until suspension is resolved" is not enough here.

You can also set an ultimatum that if they don't resolve this issue within the timeframe of a month, you will include the data protection agency in this case. Sometimes support might suddenly get better within a few minutes.

They'll ignore you and not even bother responding at their DPO contact email. They're banking on the uselessness of regulators and non-enforcement of the GDPR and it's working well.

Depends on the country. It could get a lot more costly for them in some cases beyond having one user less. GDPR complaints are quite expensive, especially for companies as large as eBay. If they keep private data without consent, they will be hit eventually.

The GDPR technically allows recourse in case of automated decisions, so you can complain to their DPO and escalate it to your country's regulator. Expect their DPO to ignore you though.
