If you are looking for something much more lightweight for playing music, check out mpd http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Music_Player_Daemon_Wiki . There is a really nice Mac mpd client called Theremin: http://theremin.sigterm.eu/

Thanks for the link. I've been using qmpd on the mac with a lot of success for some time now, but I'll check out the native solution.
