I admit it, I still use perl for backend stuff. I use it because I know how to get things done with it and I'm too lazy to want to learn how to do it with another language. And, yep, Perl has pretty much always had more than it's share of rat's asses sniping at and chasing away those who came looking for help and asking questions, but to be fair Larry Wall was never one of them.
Aside from that, the page this links to looks like a great resource and I've bookmarked it so I can go over it later.
