Thanks. In order to respect privacy, I didn’t integrate any analytics in the app. So direct feedback is very welcome.

I made a programming puzzle game that got overwhelmingly positive reviews by the very few people who downloaded it: 42 five-star reviews over 45 total.

I think that anyone who likes hard puzzles and spending many hours/days to solve some levels will enjoy it.

Also, if one happens to be a programmer that struggles with recursion, I think the game might help with that regard, but being a programmer is not a requirement to play.

Your website could really do with some screenshots or a video of the gameplay, regardless of how simple the graphics might be. The AppStore listing is better in that regard, with screenshots for every device that is supported.

Thanks, I will try to improve the website.

It rarely gets any traffic and almost all my downloads come from the App Store itself. But adding some screenshots doesn't hurt.

This almost seems like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Perhaps a bit more love will get it some more traffic.

Yeah the graphics are a selling point, looks intriguing.

I only have android -- and from memory, android users are more into games..

Could you upload a "let's play" somewhere? it sounds interesting.

I will when I get some free time.

I added some screenshots as recommended. Thanks for your feedback.

I’ve developed Recursive [0], a programming puzzles game that helps understand and master recursion, which is, I think, a topic that many developers have difficulty with.

I’ll be glad to send an AppStore promo code for those who’d like to play it for free (email in website [1]).

Also, I don’t use any analytics tools. So your direct feedback is welcome and highly appreciated.

On a similar note is recursed, a puzzle platformer that isn't about programming, but it is absolutely about programming.

Hello, that’s exactly what I am building and launching next week. I still have some final touches to finish including adding some presentation of the project, but I would highly appreciate if you could take a look at my project [0] and give me some feedback.

I tried to register but it said "Forbidden"...

But then I navigated back to the main page and it logged me in :shrug

Nice site! I think the text could be a _little bigger_ but yeah -- looking forward to more touches!

Thanks for your feedback! I will try to investigate the registration issue and fix it. I've seen that you finally were able to register and to post some test content.

Also, would it be a problem for you if I reset the database when I redeploy the website for the launch or do you prefer if I keep the content that you have created?

Haha, go ahead!

I’ve been in your situation where I also wanted to learn Elixir/Phoenix and I fortunately had an idea of a web app that was a nice fit and I am releasing it this week.

So I suggest to just go with any project, for example just duplicate something that already exists (twitter, etc). This way, when you find an idea you really like, you’ll be able to build it quicker.

And if I really have to suggest an idea, I think some project management or collaboration tool is a nice fit. You can build it so that it helps you organize your projects or collaborate with your friends, and then see if it may be helpful for other people too.

I can second this. I am using Elixir/Phoenix/LiveView for a new web app I am launching soon, and I have not written a single line of javascript so far.

I think creating a simple programming language that supports recursion is a good way to get better.

I did so in one of my side projects that I have recently released as an iOS and macOS puzzle game named "Recursive" where recursion plays a central role and allows solving levels with very short programs [0].

Also, I may be biased, but I think that players can improve their mastery of recursion using the game.

If you'd like you can contact me and I will gladly send you a promo code (contact email at website).

You can have a look at Lightbot Jr and Kodable for more kid oriented programming games.

I have started building a game where kids make their own mini-games. It will be more focused on drawing and customizing items and then using them to build the mini-games, but there will also be some programming aspects as well.

Would this be something that may interest you and your kids?

If you'd like, I'll gladly exchange with you about the topic. You can find my email on the app store or on my website (visible in my profile).

Thanks for your feedback. I am glad you like it.

Hi HN!

I am glad to share Recursive with you. It is a minimalistic puzzle game where you create short programs to instruct robots to collect all gems.

I think many people here may enjoy it. So I am available if you have any questions and will appreciate your feedback.
